The electric vehicle (EV) revolution is sweeping the automotive industry, and Tata Motors is gearing up to be a significant player in this new era. The Tata Punch, which has already made waves in the compact SUV segment, is set to go electric with the Tata Punch.ev. In this article, we’ll explore what to expect from the Tata Punch.ev, including its interiors, features, and its impending rivalry with other EVs.

Punch.ev vs. Exter EV: A Battle of Electric Titans

The competition in the electric vehicle segment is heating up, with the Tata Punch.ev and Hyundai Exter EV poised to face off. The Exter EV has already proven its mettle by becoming the 3rd bestselling Hyundai car in July, with 7,000 units sold. On the other hand, the Punch has been a success story, with 12,019 units sold in the same month. The battle between these two EVs promises to be intense.

Exterior Expectations

While the exteriors of the Punch.ev are not expected to undergo major changes, there will be subtle elements that set it apart as an electric vehicle. These include a full-width LED daytime running light (DRL) setup and EV-specific badging. The recent spy shots have also hinted at these changes.

Revealing Interiors

The real excitement lies inside the Tata Punch.ev. Spy shots have finally unveiled its interiors, which were previously camouflaged. Here’s what we can expect:

Large Infotainment Screen: For the first time, we get a glimpse of a sizable infotainment screen. It’s speculated to be around 10.2 inches in size, similar to the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) Nexon, but not as large as the 12.3-inch unit on the Nexon.ev.

Auto-Dimming IRVM: Another notable addition is an auto-dimming interior rear-view mirror (IRVM). This feature enhances driving comfort and reduces glare from trailing vehicles.

Trim-Dependent Features

One interesting aspect of the Punch.ev is that its interior features may vary based on the trim level. Test mules have been spotted with different equipment levels. Here’s a glimpse of what to expect:

Top-Spec Variants: These are likely to come equipped with premium elements like a new two-spoke steering wheel borrowed from the Nexon facelift, complete with a backlit Tata logo. Touch and toggle steering controls could add to the convenience.

Lower Trims: The lower trims of the Punch EV may continue with the steering wheel found in the ICE Punch. They could also borrow some equipment from the Tiago EV.

Higher Trims: Expect these to feature amenities from the Nexon.ev variants, including 360-degree cameras and electronic parking brakes, among others.

Impressive Interior Features

Irrespective of the trim level, the Tata Punch.ev is set to offer a range of impressive interior features. These include automatic climate control, push-button start/stop, auto-folding outside rear-view mirrors (ORVMs), a leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, and a cooled glove box.

Performance and Range

One of the most significant advantages of electric vehicles is their performance, and the Punch.ev is expected to deliver an exhilarating drive experience. While specific powertrain details have not been revealed, it’s anticipated that the Punch.ev will build upon the success of the Tiago EV’s electric setup. Additionally, the EV is likely to offer a range of around 300 to 350 kilometers on a single charge. This range should be more than sufficient for daily commutes and short inter-city trips.

Conclusion

As the automotive industry transitions towards electrification, Tata Motors is poised to make a mark with the Tata Punch.ev. With intriguing interior upgrades and a promising range, this electric SUV is set to capture the imagination of the EV enthusiast. The battle between the Tata Punch.ev and its competitors promises to be electric, and we eagerly await its launch in the near future.
