Mahindra, a prominent name in India’s automotive landscape, is gearing up for an exciting expansion of its renowned Thar lineup, with the eagerly awaited launch of the Thar 5-door variant slated for a mid-2024 debut. This long wheelbase iteration is poised to offer a distinct identity from its 3-door counterpart, encompassing not only a larger structure but also an array of trademarked names that signal a diverse range of possibilities.

The Indian automaker has recently filed for trademarks encompassing seven distinctive names for the extended Thar variant: Thar Armada, Cult, Rex, Savannah, Roxx, Gladius, and Centurion. This move hints at the brand’s inclination to infuse individualistic character into each potential variant, inviting anticipation and speculation among enthusiasts. Which of these names resonates most with you? Share your thoughts in the comments section.

Distinguishing itself from the 3-door Thar, the 5-door variant promises notable exterior differentiations, notably observed in the test mules. Expect a revamped grille design, new LED headlights, fresh alloy wheel options, redesigned LED tail lights, updated bumper designs, and an expanded color palette, signaling a refreshing visual upgrade.

The interior of the longer-wheelbase Thar is projected to elevate the overall driving experience, boasting an augmented feature set compared to its predecessor. Anticipate additions such as a sunroof, an expanded touchscreen infotainment system, a front armrest, a rear parking camera, and pillar-mounted grab handles, catering to enhanced comfort and convenience. However, the inclusion of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology remains uncertain.

In terms of power, Mahindra plans to retain the existing engine lineup for the extended Thar, offering the proven 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine and the dynamic 2.0-litre mStallion turbo petrol engine. These engines will be available with a choice between a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, catering to diverse driving preferences. The 5-door Thar will be available in both 4×2 and 4×4 configurations, although the inclusion of the smaller 1.5-litre diesel engine in RWD variants remains undisclosed.

The impending arrival of the Thar 5-door variant signifies Mahindra’s continued commitment to providing versatile, feature-rich offerings that cater to the evolving needs and preferences of the Indian automotive market. As enthusiasts await the unveiling of this extended Thar lineup, anticipation brews regarding the distinctive traits and unique offerings each trademarked name might represent, heralding a new chapter in the Thar’s storied legacy.
