Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) marks historic sales milestone in September 2023
In a resounding success for Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL), the company achieved its highest-ever monthly sales in September 2023, signaling a significant milestone in its journey in the Indian automotive market. With a total of 71,641 units sold, including domestic sales and exports, Hyundai demonstrated a remarkable 13.35 percent year-on-year growth compared to the 63,201 units sold in the same month the previous year.
Domestic Sales Surge
In the domestic market, Hyundai recorded a stellar performance by selling 54,241 units, marking its highest-ever sales record since its inception in India. This achievement represents a 9.13 percent year-on-year growth compared to the 49,700 units sold in September 2022, with a gain of 4,541 units in volume year-on-year. Hyundai’s diverse range of vehicles in India, spanning from the affordable Grand i10 Nios hatchback to the premium Ioniq 5 electric crossover SUV, contributed to this success.
The portfolio includes models like the Grand i10 Nios hatchback, the recently launched Exter crossover, Aura sedan, i20 and i20 N Line premium hatchbacks, Venue and Venue N Line sub-4m SUVs, Creta compact SUV, Alcazar SUV, Kona Electric crossover, Tucson SUV, and Ioniq 5.
Impressive Exports
Hyundai Motor India Limited serves as a vital global export hub for Hyundai Motor Company (HMC), catering to a vast market spanning 88 countries across Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, and Australia. In September 2023, Hyundai exported 17,400 units, marking a significant 28.87 percent year-on-year growth compared to the 13,501 units shipped in the same month in 2022. This boost in exports contributed to the overall impressive sales performance.
Positive Outlook and Future Plans
Commenting on the remarkable September sales figures, Mr. Tarun Garg, COO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd., highlighted the impact of the ongoing festive season, which resulted in a robust sales momentum. Hyundai achieved over 9 percent year-on-year growth in domestic sales in September 2023, with SUVs playing a pivotal role in this success. SUVs now account for more than 65 percent of Hyundai’s domestic sales.
Looking ahead, Hyundai has ambitious plans, including the potential launch of a new MPV, likely named Stargazer, to compete with popular models like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Kia Carens. Additionally, a facelifted Creta compact SUV and an electrified version are in the pipeline, with anticipated launches in 2024 for the ICE model and 2025 for the Creta Electric.
