Honda Cars India has made a big comeback in the SUV business with the launch of the new Elevate mid-size SUV. Known as the Honda WR-V in Japan, this SUV is now taking on the competitive compact SUV segment in India, challenging models like the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, and others.
The recent unveiling of the Honda Elevate Field Explorer Concept, which corresponds to the WR-V in Japan, highlights a tougher and more rugged design for the SUV. The concept brings in some striking changes to its appearance, giving it a bolder and more robust appeal.
The Field Explorer Concept introduces blackened headlights and tail lights, adding a stealthy look to the SUV. The unpainted body cladding now sports a matte-black finish, enhancing its overall appeal. Honda has replaced its standard logo with classic ‘HONDA’ lettering, contributing to the rugged aesthetic. The SUV also features special alloy wheels with a glossy black finish and tall profile all-weather tires.
One notable addition to the Elevate Field Explorer Concept is the functional roof rails with a luggage carrier, which comes in a sleek gloss-black finish. These changes in design significantly differentiate the Field Explorer Concept from the standard Elevate, amplifying its appeal among compact SUV buyers in India.
While details about the interior changes in the Field Explorer Concept are yet to be revealed, the standard Elevate is well-equipped with a 5-seater layout and a range of features including a 10.2-inch touchscreen unit, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless phone charging, and advanced safety features like up to 6 airbags, electronic stability control, and driver assistance systems.
Under the hood, the Elevate in India is powered by a 1.5L NA petrol engine generating 121 horsepower and 145 Nm torque, available with both a 6-speed MT and CVT options. Additionally, Honda has confirmed an electric version of the Elevate expected to launch by the end of 2024 or in 2025, aligning with the growing trend towards electric vehicles.
Overall, Honda’s introduction of the Elevate Field Explorer Concept showcases a more rugged and enhanced version of their SUV, aiming to appeal to SUV enthusiasts seeking a tougher and distinctive driving experience.
