Hyundai, known for its constant pursuit of innovation, is once again ready to make a splash in the Indian automotive market. After a series of mid-lifecycle facelifts for its compact cars and the successful launch of the Ioniq 5, Exter, and Verna, the spotlight has now turned to the SUV lineup. In 2024, Hyundai plans to bring substantial changes to its popular models, including the Creta, Alcazar, Tucson and the eagerly awaited Creta EV.
1. Hyundai Creta Facelift
Hyundai Creta, a favorite among SUV lovers, is on the verge of getting its first mid-lifecycle update. Spy shots have hinted at a design overhaul inspired by Hyundai’s global flagship, the Palisade. Exterior changes include a redesigned grille, new projector headlamps and LED daytime running lamps. Inside, expect minor changes to the styling and significant updates to the equipment list, including ADAS, a 360-degree camera and a new 10.25-inch infotainment system.
Adding to the excitement is the introduction of a 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, which fills the gap left by the discontinued 1.4-turbo. With both manual and automatic gearbox options, the Creta is getting ready for a sportier N Line variant in April-May 2024
2. Hyundai Alcazar Facelift
Following in the footsteps of the Creta is its three-row counterpart, the Alcazar. Set to undergo its first major mid-lifecycle makeover, the Alcazar promises extensive updates both inside and out. While the test mules remain heavily camouflaged, the Creta is expected to follow suit with the changes. The interiors are expected to reflect the updated Creta along with new upholstery and trim options in the equipment list.
Under the hood, the Alcazar is likely to retain the 160hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine and the 115hp, 1.5-litre diesel engine. The transmission options are expected to remain unchanged, maintaining the Alcazar’s stellar performance.
3. Hyundai Tucson Facelift
Recently unveiled globally, the Hyundai Tucson facelift features minimal exterior changes but a significant interior makeover. The dashboard features a new design with a smooth, curved one-piece panel housing the infotainment screen and instrument cluster. A minimalist center console layout and a new steering wheel contribute to a better user experience.।
While the global model offers a variety of powertrain options, the India-spec Tucson is likely to stick to the existing 156hp, 2.0-litre petrol and 186hp, 2.0-litre diesel engines mated to an automatic gearbox. The diesel version also offers an optional AWD system for added versatility
4. Hyundai Creta EV
Breaking new ground, Hyundai’s first mass-market EV for India will be based on its bestseller Creta. While the test mules feature the body shell of the regular Creta, expect unique design elements to differentiate the electric version. Inside, similarities with the new version are expected, maintaining consistency in the lineup.
Sources reveal that the Creta EV will have a 45kWh battery pack supplied by LG Chem, which will provide adequate power through a single motor on the front axle. With around 138hp of power and 255Nm of torque, the Creta EV is set to be a strong competitor in the electric SUV segment, which is expected to debut around the same time as Maruti’s eVX and MG ZS EV.
Conclusion
In short, Hyundai’s ambitious plans for 2024 mark an important chapter in the evolution of its SUV lineup. The careful updates of Creta, Alcazar, Tucson and entry into electric mobility with Creta EV reflects Hyundai’s commitment to remain at the forefront of innovation in the Indian automotive landscape.
