The Tata Nexon has recently earned a prestigious 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP, solidifying its reputation as a safe and reliable vehicle. This rating applies to Nexon models manufactured after August 8, 2023, and specifically to the internal combustion engine (ICE) versions. The compact SUV underwent rigorous testing under stricter protocols introduced in 2022, showcasing its commitment to passenger safety.
Mohan Savarkar, Chief Product Officer at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, expressed satisfaction with the Nexon’s performance in the tests. He highlighted that the company had already planned for these assessments and hinted at potential participation in BNCAP tests in the future. Additionally, the Harrier and Safari models from Tata Motors also received 5-star ratings in crash tests conducted by Bharat NCAP.
The tataNexon excelled in both adult and child occupancy safety categories, scoring impressively high points. It achieved 32.22 out of 34 points for adult occupant protection and 44.52 out of 49 points for child occupant protection, making it one of the highest-scoring vehicles in Global NCAP’s ‘Safer Cars For India’ campaign. Notably, the Nexon surpassed its predecessor’s child occupancy score significantly.
During various impact tests, including front, side, and side pole impacts, the Nexon demonstrated commendable protection levels for occupants. While it provided at least adequate protection in most aspects, slight concerns were noted regarding chest protection in the side pole test. However, overall, the Nexon ensured almost full protection for both 3-year-old and 18-month-old occupants during front and side impact scenarios.
The latest Nexon models come equipped with essential safety features as standard, such as six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), seatbelt reminders, ISOFIX anchors, and a passenger airbag disabling switch. These features played a crucial role in achieving the top safety rating. Moreover, the Nexon meets the requirements for pedestrian protection outlined by UN127 and GTR9 standards.
