Toyota’s foray into the electric SUV segment gains momentum with the unveiling of the Toyota Urban SUV concept, a close counterpart to the Maruti Suzuki eVX. This promising concept marks a step towards a shared future between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki, aiming for a global debut in production form next year.

**A Sibling Bond: Toyota Urban SUV and Maruti eVX**

Built on a shared platform with the Maruti eVX, the Toyota Urban SUV concept embraces economies of scale, transcending beyond just the platform and mechanics to include exterior body panels and interior trim. The concept’s dimensions, measuring 4,300mm in length, 1,820mm in width, and 1,620mm in height, closely mirror the Maruti eVX, boasting a 2,700mm wheelbase for both models.

**Design and Styling**

Exuding an aura akin to contemporary Toyota EVs, the Urban SUV concept showcases an aesthetic reminiscent of the bZ compact SUV concept. Embracing edgy surfaces, C-shaped LED daytime running lamps, flared wheel arches, and a rugged SUV silhouette, this concept exudes a modern appeal. Notably, its rear end bears striking similarities to the Maruti eVX, emphasizing their shared heritage.

**Interior and Features**

While specifics regarding the Toyota Urban SUV’s interior remain undisclosed, insights from the Maruti eVX suggest a focus on space, flexibility, and cutting-edge technology. Built on a born-EV skateboard platform, it promises plush interiors, an expansive array of creature comforts, safety features, and technological advancements.

**Platform and Powertrain**

Aligned with the Maruti eVX, the Toyota Urban SUV will leverage the 27PL skateboard platform, localized heavily in India and manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat facility. Offering two battery pack options, the higher variant aims for a 400km-plus range. Additionally, Toyota plans to introduce both FWD and dual-motor AWD options catering to diverse markets.

**Global Prospects and Launch Timeline**

Set to mark Toyota’s entry into the electric SUV segment in Europe, the Urban SUV holds prominence among the three EV SUVs poised for the European market. This made-in-India model embodies Toyota’s commitment to electric mobility. Anticipate its introduction following the production-spec Suzuki eVX’s showroom debut in 2024, paving the way for Toyota’s venture into the electric SUV landscape.

**Conclusion**

The Toyota Urban SUV concept embodies a collaborative effort between Toyota and Maruti Suzuki, heralding an era of shared innovation and sustainable mobility. With its striking design, advanced features, and a platform emphasizing versatility and performance, this concept sets the stage for an electrifying future in the global automotive arena.
